Mimmit Koodaa webinar by Riimu

How often have you heard it mentioned that the software industry is male-dominated? Unfortunately, we’ve also heard it too many times. However, we believe that women play a vital role in the software industry, both presently and in the future. By teaming up with Mimmit Koodaa, we discovered how we could help raise women’s interest in software development. Want to know more? Keep reading.

Mimmit Koodaa is an education program for women to increase gender equality in the Finnish software industry by breaking the stereotype that coding is only for men. Anyone interested in learning can participate in the program. The main objective is to provide easy access to learning resources for women, especially those with no experience in the field.

Riimu, in collaboration with Mimmit koodaa, carried out this rewarding 2-hour webinar, which we wanted to have at the Riimu office in Helsinki. However, due to Covid, we did it online on January 22nd, 2022. We had 20 very intrigued participants, and our talented host Mirjan Merruko, put all his charisma and knowledge of the subject to make this webinar a pleasant experience. As the topic for our webinar, we chose Vaadin, a Java framework for building web applications.

But why did we choose Vaadin?

We chose Vaadin because we know the technology very well, We have many years of experience working with it, and all of the four founders of Riimu used to work for Vaadin. In addition, at Riimu, we work on a diverse set of projects, and Vaadin is a valuable tool in our toolbox. Finally, by choosing Vaadin as the topic of our presentation, we wanted to give back to the Vaadin community by introducing new developers to a technology we trust.

The presentation was clear, and the examples were simple enough that I could grasp how to use the Vaadin framework and how it could benefit me. I think it’ll be useful for me to get back to doing more with Java, which I expect. In the future, when in-person workshops are possible again, this would be an excellent topic for one.

The program has helped people approach this industry, learning effortlessly with easy accessibility to its tools and resources. For our part, we assist in the growth and development by promoting it so that more and more people are attracted to this sector.
