In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, it’s essential for companies to constantly innovate and identify new opportunities for growth and relevance to their customers. One way to do this is to use service design, a user-centered approach that puts the needs and experiences of customers at the forefront of the product and service development process.

What is Service Design?

Service design is a holistic approach to creating new and improving existing services. It involves understanding customer needs, pain points, and expectations, considering business objectives, capabilities and limitations as well as knowing the possibilities new technologies bring and using all this knowledge to create services that meet and exceed the customer needs.

Service Design approach where you look at opportunities holistically

By taking a service design approach, companies can identify new business opportunities to drive growth and relevance in several different ways.

Firstly, service design can help companies to identify unmet customer needs. By conducting research and analysis of the customers, companies can identify pain points, gaps, and areas for improvement. This can lead to the development of new services that address these needs, filling a gap in the market and creating new revenue streams.

Secondly, service design can help companies to differentiate themselves from competitors. By designing services that are tailored to the needs and preferences of their customers, companies can create a unique value proposition that sets them apart from competitors. This can help to build brand loyalty and attract new customers, driving growth and relevance.

Thirdly, service design can help companies to optimize existing services. By analyzing customer feedback and data, companies can identify areas for improvement and make iterative changes to their services. This can lead to increased customer satisfaction, retention, and loyalty, driving growth and relevance over the long term.

Finally, service design can help companies identify completely new opportunities to drive growth from services that extend or build on their existing products and data. By analyzing existing capabilities and assets, companies can identify areas for new services that will create added value for their customers and can be monetized to drive new revenue and increased profitability.

Service design is a powerful approach for identifying new business opportunities to drive growth and relevance. By taking a user-centered approach to service design, companies can create services that meet and exceed customer needs, differentiate themselves from competitors, optimize existing services and monetize existing assets and data in new ways. By embracing service design as an ongoing process, companies can stay ahead of the curve and continue to innovate and evolve in a rapidly changing business landscape.

The Raidho Rune, what does it have to do with design and development?

Raidho is the Rune sign for ride, inner compass and journey. The symbol is understood to be an expression of both a physical and spiritual journey or quest. In a wider context, Raidho is said to bring order and support with wise advice and good judgment to help people who seek advice on their journey. Furthermore, it also means setting things in motion in the right direction. We believe that this not only symbolises Riimu as a company, but the process of design perfectly.

In this stage we focus on creating a shared understanding of the business objectives and customer needs as well as the capabilities and limitations that exist within the organization.

Activities in this step typically include

  • Analysis of data
  • Review of existing materials
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Customer interviews

Outputs from this step typically include

  • Findings
  • Needs and objectives
  • Metrics and KPIs
  • Knowledge gaps

Next we set out to create a shared aspirational view of the future that meets the objectives, needs and capabilities as identified in the Discover step. The vision that we create in this step helps align the organization behind a shared view of what we want to achieve and to focus efforts on the right things.

Activities in this step typically include

  • Insights creation from discover stage findings
  • Vision creation
  • Co-creation workshops

Outputs from this step typically include

  • Insights
  • Personas & mindsets

  • Vision North-star

Finally, we create a tangible shared view of what we are developing through a service concept and experience prototype. We use these to validate the chosen direction with stakeholders and users and plan and prioritize the development roadmap.

Activities in this step typically include

  • Concept creation
  • Experience prototype creation
  • Co-creation workshops

Outputs from this step typically include

  • Service concept
  • Experience prototype
  • Service blueprint
  • Prioritized development roadmap

Selecting the Riimu Design Raidho that best fits your needs

The Riimu Design Raidho process has three different packages to get started with, S, M and L for simplicity.

Riimu Design Raidho S

The fastest way to get started, a 2-day intense Riimu Design Raidho where we immerse ourselves in the topic to co-create novel solutions. This is the ideal approach when you have an initial understanding of the opportunity you want to pursue or problem you want to solve and want to get going quickly.

  • 2-day workshop

  • Workshop report with a clear service concept description and initial implementation plan

Riimu Design Raidho M

We dive deeper into the problem space and explore it from multiple angles with several stakeholders over the course of a week. This option is ideal when you have some thoughts about new opportunities you want to explore or problems you must solve but still need to understand them better and develop solution options with stakeholders in your organization.

  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Prototype co-creation workshop

  • Definition of business needs and objectives
  • service concept description

Riimu Design Raidho L

We spend time together to understand the business and user needs and current capabilities, define a shared vision for the future and create a tangible solution concept and prototype. Typical duration is 4-6 weeks but we will tailor the content and duration based on your needs and ability to commit to a specific schedule. This is ideal when you know you need to innovate and change in order to drive growth and relevance but you might not have a very clear view of where it could come from or how it might look.
